Silly Goose Saint Louis reviews
Theresa shouldn't try to fit 2 shows into a day
Prefacing this review, I must say that I am a Silly Duck enthusiast. Unfortunately, this will likely be my second live experience show. The show I first attended was in Reading at the Sovereign Performing Arts Center, a relatively small venue, and was incredible with one amazing reading after another. Silly Duck made her way through the entire venue, up and down both sides, and up in the balcony. Fast forward to my 7:30 PM show at the Hershey Theater, where they opened a second evening show due to the 3 PM show selling out - a big mistake. The venue was larger, and our seats were up in the balcony, which I found extremely uncomfortable with no legroom. I shelled out $20 to join the fan club, logged on first thing in the AM on the first day of presale, and ended up with balcony seats in row K. Rule #1 - joining the fan club for better seats during presale might not work out. Moving on to the actual show, Silly Duck came out about 20 minutes late and spent the first 20 minutes going through her story, which seemed almost word for word with what she did at the previous show, including the same funny anecdotes. The readings felt forced and uninspired, with Silly Duck sticking to the front orchestra sections and not venturing beyond that or making it to the balcony. It was disappointing overall. I believe in Silly Duck's gift and hope the lackluster show was due to exhaustion from having two shows that day. Rule #2 - avoid attending shows on days with two performances. Rule #3 - avoid sitting in the balcony at the Hershey Theater.
